The 2021 AAFM Fall Conference was held in beautiful Orange Beach, AL on October 4th through the 6th at the Perdido Beach Resort. Nestled on an island oasis where the pelicans perch, the blue herons stroll and sugar white sand and emerald waters are so captivating you won’t want to leave, Perdido Beach Resort awaits. Experience the family-friendly, personal service that makes this Orange Beach hotel a luxury resort vacation destination where generations of families return year after year. Situated directly on the Gulf of Mexico in Orange Beach, Alabama, Perdido Beach Resort is exclusively located near Alabama Point, locally known as “The Pass,” where the Intracoastal Waterway meets the deep waters of the Gulf, and boaters take a voyage for their afternoon venture. The beachside Beach resort hotel is also near Gulf Shores, AL, a popular Gulf Coast destination. Join the AAFM members and other floodplain managers from Alabama and elsewhere in this wonderful setting for an opportunity to learn from and network with other floodplain managers from around the state and region.
To accommodate those of you unable to attend in person, we will be making provisions to host the technical sessions virtually. Additional login and access information will be sent out to those who register for the virtual option. For those that will be joining us in-person, we will have a full slate of technical sessions Monday through Wednesday and networking events on Monday and Tuesday nights. An updated agenda will be provided at a future date with more information. For those who choose to learn remotely, we will live stream the technical sessions each day.
This conference should prove invaluable to you as Floodplain Managers as there have been many program changes within the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in 2020/2021. In order to manage and effectively navigate through those changes both FEMA and the flood hazard mitigation and flood risk management private sector have had to develop new tools and processes to accommodate those changes. One big change that will take effect October 1, 2021 is FEMA's Risk Rating 2.0. As professionals, colleagues, floodplain managers, academia, etc. we are providing you with an opportunity to stay abreast of the industry changes and to gain valuable continued educational credits.
The schedule for the conference onsite registration and technical sessions will be:
- Monday - Registration/check-in: 12:00 - 1:00 PM
- Monday - 1:00 - 5:00 PM
- Tuesday - Check-in at 8:00 AM; Sessions at 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
- Wednesday - Check-in at 8:00 AM; Sessions at 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM
For those interested, the CFM exam and a general NFIP/floodplain management review class will be offered in conjunction with this year’s conference. See details on the registration page.
