AAFM 2020 Fall Conference
The Lodge at Gulf State Park (A Hilton Hotel), Gulf Shores | October 19th to 21st
- Address: 21196 East Beach Blvd, Gulf Shores, AL 36542 | Phone: (251) 540-4000
The 2020 AAFM Fall Conference will be held in beautiful Gulf Shores, AL on October 19th through the 21st at The Lodge at Gulf State Park. It is said that this hotel is "where doing nothing is really something". The hotel is a unique destination on the Alabama Gulf Coast where nature is at your doorstep. It is located inside the naturally beautiful 6,150-acre Gulf State Park. This unique destination stands out from other Gulf Coast destinations because of its size and the diversity of its preserved ecosystems. During your stay, you'll connect with the outdoors on a whole new level. And in doing so, you'll be helping the hotel's conservation efforts to restore and maintain the beauty of this truly distinctive property. Join the AAFM members and other floodplain managers from Alabama and elsewhere in this wonderful setting for an opportunity to learn from and network with other floodplain managers from around the state and region.
To accommodate those of you unable to attend in person, we will be making provisions to host the technical sessions virtually. Additional login and access information will be sent out to those who register for the virtual option. For those that will be joining us in-person, we initially had 2 sessions (early & late) to help spread everyone out at the Island House, however, with our new location, the meeting spaces will more than accommodate our needs to move back to just one session. See updated agenda for more information. For those who choose to learn remotely, we will have live events each day.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are embarking upon new territory to make this conference a success, but as professionals, colleagues, floodplain managers, academia, etc. we are providing you with valuable continued educational credits at a time where virtual training is predominately the only option. We will be practicing the requisite State of Alabama guidelines for social distancing in cooperation with the hotel.
The schedule for the conference onsite registration and technical sessions will be:
- Monday - Registration/check-in: 12:00 - 1:30 PM
- Monday - 1:30 - 5:00 PM
- Tuesday - 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Wednesday - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
For those interested, the CFM exam and a general NFIP/floodplain management review class will be offered in conjunction with this year’s conference.
